We have blooms! The sunflowers are weirdly shorter than last year, but appear to be just as packed with blooms–feeling good about opening day next Tuesday, July 17!
Our musicians and events are set so we are committed to a start date of Tuesday, July 17 for the Sunflower Festival. We are a little worried, the field doesn’t seem as far along as it should be, but the plants really grow those last two weeks with bright sunshine and hot weather! We will…
Oh, my goodness, when we woke up to pounding hail early Tuesday morning, I thought we were in real trouble, but the sunflowers were not damaged!! It was perfect timing for the rain and we don’t think we will have to irrigate again.
We are so, so paranoid about the deer this year. Short of extending our fence to seven feet, we are trying other things. One is a horrible-smelling deterrent we spray around the far corner of the field and now we have added these flashing, banging aluminum pans where they normally enter. So far, so good!
We finally got in the field, dodging thunderstorms! We thought we would be able to open Thursday, July 12, but we may have to push it back a few days–will keep you posted!
We have had so much fun getting to share our field and love of sunflowers with you all during the sunflower festival last week! We look forward to seeing you all out here again next year. Thank you so much for coming out to celebrate summer with us!
